Moving To San Diego-Things To Know

June 15, 2020 by Wesley Guest

Moving To San Diego-Things To Know

This is the best video about moving to San Diego-things to know before you move here. I came up with this list of 15 things and trust me, you want to make sure to stick around and be aware of the bonus tip, it’s a must know if you are living in San Diego.

All right, lets hop right in:

  • There is always something to do for everyone – festivals, countless farmers markets, shows, nightlife, marathons, hiking, boating, we have it all.
  • The Innovation – San Diego has always been home to innovative companies such as Qualcomm, Illumina, and Dexcom. And over recent years, more companies have decided to call San Diego home as well (including Amazon and Apple). From tech and biotech startups to healthcare organizations to craft breweries, there is never a shortage of transformative companies in San Diego. Whatever industry you’re in, you can feel comforted knowing there will always be companies that suit your passions here.

  • Weather – For the most part, its true… San Diego has some of the best weather in the world. One small thing that important to note if your dream is living on or near the beach is that there is a marine layer, especially the closer you are to the water and coastline. Not a huge deal, but you should be aware.
  • The Attractions Here Cater To The Kids – Can’t commit a full week to a summer camp? San Diego also has a ton of cool day trips sure to be fun for the whole family. Two of the most unique experiences include the safari adventure tours at the 1,800 acre San Diego Zoo Safari Park and trips to Carlsbad’s Legoland, which provides a unique and creative interactive experience that the whole family can enjoy.
  • The Beaches – Another obvious one, but there’s nothing quite like the beaches in San Diego. With 70 miles of coastline and breathtaking sunsets, the beaches are perfect go-to even in the wintertime. There are so many beaches in San Diego and each beach usually has its own unique characteristics such as which one is the best for surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, relaxing).
  • San Diego only has one professional sports team. The good news is that the San Diego Padres play in Major Leagues Baseballs best ball park, Petco Park. It’s a must see when you are in San Diego.
  • Living in San Diego does not come cheap. The cost of living in San Diego ranks number 12 in the united states (Ouch) as far as most expensive cities to live. But is also ranks number 6 for quality of life. We pay the price but we are happy. Many people call this the sunshine tax.
  • There are lots of transplants. You will be more surprised in a conversation with someone new when they say they are from San Diego. It is not that common.
  • San Diego is a huge military town. We have a massive Navy base and ancillaries. We also have Camp Pendleton for the marines. Ever heard of a movie called Top Gun? Yes, we have Miramar here as well!

  • San Diego is ideally located for amazing day and weekend trips. Big Bear, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, it is all so close and easily drive-able. See number 11 below:
  • San Diego is just a quick drive away from fun, popular destinations like Mexico, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Joshua Tree, and Disneyland. Pro tip: take the train for beautiful scenic views along the way.
  • Great food options. Even the most pickiest of foodies will find something to relish in. The food options area among the best in the country.
  • The craft beer scene is stellar. Actually it’s better. The craft beer capital of the world. Thank you Stone Brew for making us the IPA mecca of the world!
  • San Diego is an extremely dog friendly. I mean extreme. Like you will see dogs everywhere. Yes everywhere their humans go. Nothing surprises me anymore.
  • We have droughts. San Diego is coastal but for the most part, San Diego is much more arid and winters are still dry compared with most other zones with this type of climate. The good news is it doesn’t rain that much. The result can be a drought but usually a very slow fire season. The bad news is some winters are pretty rainy. The good news is no drought but it can lead to a busy fire season.
  • Earthquakes. Yes, we have earthquakes. News flash, anyone can have an earthquake. Also, San Diego is built for earthquakes and I can assure you, once you’ve been through a couple earth quakes, you don’t worry about them all that much.
