What Is It Like To Live In Pacific Beach San Diego

June 12, 2020 by Wesley Guest

What Is It Like To Live In Pacific Beach San Diego

Living in Pacific Beach San Diego, provides you an urban meets suburban meets beach town living mix feel. There are many parks, shops, boutiques, markets, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, hotels and motels. The Pacific Beach is one of the best examples of true coastal living with a vibrant community and many things to do.

If you love an outdoor lifestyle and neighborhoods that are tops as far as being walkable, you need to consider this beautiful neighborhood.

4 Distinct Types Of Neighborhoods In Pacific Beach San Diego

  1. Pacific Beach (Main)
  2. Mission Beach
  3. Crown Bay / Sail Bay
  4. North Pacific Beach

#1. Pacific Beach Main

Pacific Beach (Main) is the most central part of Pacific Beach (PB if you’re a local) that is located around Grande and Garnet Avenues. This area bleeds out several blocks to the north and to the south of the two main roads. Here, you will get a mix of wide mix of age ranges. There are young professionals, families and even some residents who have lived there for 50 and even 60+ years.

You might have seen pictures of Garnet Avenue; it is the main street that runs all the way down to the ocean and turns into the pier. Many iconic images have been taken at this pier. This area (Garnet Avenue) offers a lot of energy because it has the vast restaurants and bars. It is also the area people are talking about when they say Pacific Beach is all 20 years old getting drunk. Its central and the center of commerce in PB but the sunset does bring out the beer bogs, fist pumping, and sloppiness at times.

#2. Mission Beach

Mission Beach is the sand, surf, and beach area that is south of PB Drive or Pacific Beach Drive, that is actually a peninsula. It is a strip of land with homes, town homes and condos on the west side and the east side of Mission Boulevard.

It is a small area but a great place to live. You will have a mix of full-time residents, a lot of vacationers and tourists in the area. A lot of vacationers and tourists love this area, so the area is always busy, especially during the months of June, July, and August. The best time to hit the beach is September and October. Some of the best weather San Diego gets and the beaches empty out of the tourist and vacationers for the most party.

I lived in Mission Beach off Salem Court for nearly 7 years. I can tell you that I enjoyed every single minute of it. Steps to the sand, surfing almost every day, walks, jogs, or bike rides down the boardwalk. Fantastic neighbors, it was amazing living there.

#3. Crown Point And Sail Bay

This area is located South of Pacific Beach Main where Ingraham runs north into Pacific Beach and eventually crosses Garnet and Grande Avenues. This area is far less chaotic then Pacific Beach Main making it a fantastic place to reside.

You will a good mix of residents living here. Some young professionals, families, and old school residents that have lived there for a very long time, so you can enjoy the beach and everything that comes with it.

I lived in Sail Bay for 7 years and it was incredible. Very peaceful, perfect climate almost all the time, easy, beach and bay access, and I plan to return someday. Awesome lifestyle right here.

#4. North Pacific Beach

North Pacific Beach is mainly the area north of Garnet Avenue. Most of the streets are named after precious stones such as Emerald Street and Diamond Street. This is a great place to live because you also have a lot of families here. There are many detached homes to live in and beautiful tree lined quiet streets.

There is a busy commerce centre with shops, boutiques, markets, restaurants, bars and coffee shops located off Turquoise Street very popular with locals.
